What Customers Say About ASUS Eee PC 1000 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB Solid State Drive, 20 GB Eee Storage, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony:

Wanting to test the wireless ability, I took it to my wife's place of employment where it captured 18 different WiFi signals, some as far away as 3-4 football fields. 8)Case holds Net book, charger, cables, memory sticks and mini-mouse.9)Long range distance on the WiFi.10)Bluetooth enabled11)All programs very user friendly and upgradeable.12)3 USB ports13)Large keyboard for a net book.14)Easily added addition 1Gig of RAM, making it 2gig. So therefore, it actually scared me. Although it has not yet happened yet, the only problem I can foresee is if someone sends me an email with a.doc file attached, I will not be able to open or read it because I don't have MS Word loaded. I bought this little Asus 1000 to carry with me on my many motorcycle adventure trips.

But that is fine with me. The very first thing I noticed about it, is how clear and bright the screen is. I use the Word type program to write my emails, being able to use spell check, then simply copy and paste to my email for sending. Some other little things I really like:PROS:1)Very attractive case.2)Small and portable; easy to pack away.3)Super long battery life4)Bright, clear and HD like screen.5)Boots from startup in less than 20 seconds.6)Shuts down in about 10 seconds.7)Pretty much "Virus" un-impregnable. 15)Great unbeatable price & very high quality.CONS:None It plays music and videos perfectly, even without Windows Media Player. I really like the internet radio system it comes with.

I wanted the ability to either transfer funds; pay bills while away, communicate with friends and relatives via my email capability and store the many photographs I take along the road during my trips, without having to worry about carrying multiple cards for my digital camera. My biggest concern (or worry) was not having MS Windows and all of its attractive software to go along with me. It's almost as nice as my high-end Mitsubishi LCD HD television. While camping at a KOA, I found over 20 stations that I liked, with three outstanding Country stations that I listened to with my head phones on while reading my email from friends. I had never used Linux, nor did I know much about it. Nothing special to do, just click on a video that was emailed to you and it plays instantly fast. Although I have not actually timed it, I know I watched two full movies with my wife while I played with the functions and surfed the internet and I still had about a third of its time left on the battery.

But being the daring individual I am, I bought it anyway.I am so happy with this little system, I will try my best to list the many features that makes me feel the way I do about the little Asus 1000. Next, you can't help but notice how long the battery lasts.

*The small screen makes it harder to keep my spine straight.*I did not like Xandros --- some problems appeared right away.**I changed it to openSUSE and it is works very well now.For installation follow HOWTO on openSUSE wiki (SuSE install from USB drive)After that add SUSEee repository in Yast and install fan control. *The toy is very nice and mobile.

Product is fine for what its designed for not for extended work though in my opinion. Love the Linux os i have had enough of that sketchy Windows stuff. Great little netbook nice bright screen. Good quality built well you will be happy just know its limitations though. But if you like Windows this has a similar look so you should be comfortable Fine for what it is intended for i prefer a larger screen but in this realm 10" is about it. I basically got as a backup for my laptop so i only use occasionaly but it gets done what i want.

At the first hotel, I was unable to connect to their WIFI. And it does look like someone out there has a fix if it's the same problem. Maybe installing Ubuntu will fix the problem, maybe not. At the CDG airport I was not. You say it's a lemon. I was however able to use the night manager's greasy old Windows machine which had no problems.

But that's not really the answer the mass consumer wants to hear. When I first got my Asus 1000, I was ready to give it 5 stars. I took it out of the box, turned it on annd it booted up in 20 seconds. Or." Then I thought, if your Pinto blows up you don't say it was a good car, it just had a bad gas tank.

Or the OS. At first I was tempted to say, "It's not the computer, it's the wireless card. If someone has a problem with battery life or the keyboard, well you can live with that. I think Asus has a potentially great product but they are sure going to lose their reputation if they don't get their wireless straight.PS I just got this product 1 month ago for $385 and I see it's now $735 so what's up with that.

I realize not everyone is having this problem but enough people are to make it a showstopper.A guy I met in Europe with an Asus (which someone gave him which should tell you something right there) said he had the same problems, while his friends were able to connect using Windows and Mac noteooks. At the Minnesota airport I could not connect to the free WIFI, only to the paid connection. But when you can't get to the net, then you're just hauling around a 3 pound brick. I connected to my WIFI and soon was lying in bed streaming the Daily Show from Hulu. Then I went to France which was part of the motivation for getting it in the first place.

When you buy a Netbook, wireless should work flawlessly. The fact that this problem has been going on for so long and has not been fixed is truly unacceptable. At the next hotel, I was able to get on. And so it went.Since returning, I've searched the web and found LOTS of people having similar problems; search ASUS EEE wireless problem and see for yourself.

Reboot cleared noise only to have it keep getting worse and needing to reboot more before it cleared. Believe the problems are because they have poor tech support and tag updates with incorrect drivers and bios upgrades for different models that automatically download.

Would not buy this product again. I really liked how fast it was out of the box but don't want to waste my time with them again.

Purchased this product from Amazon after having a bad experience from Best Buy on the 8.9 inch Asus EEE Linux system crashing on upgrading from automatic updates. Called Asus support that was no help and searched on line for solutions before returning to Amazon.

Purchased Acer system 10 inch and installed Unbutu and have not had any problems. Worked fine until I installed the automatic updates and then got video noise on boot up.

Finally after 5 days only video noise on screen.
